Pitching jobs to travelers

Once we've done our due diligence to vet a prospective traveler's qualifications, carefully noted their job preferences and priorities, and honed in on what seems to be the best fit, it's time to formally pitch the job with detailed pay information by going over the job's deal sheet together with the traveler.

An example intro to a job pitch conversation might go like the below:
Hi [Traveler], hope you've been well since our last conversation –I have great news! I've found a job opening in [Location] that looks like a great fit for someone of your experience. Do you have a few minutes to go over the details together and make sure everything sounds good before we move forward and submit you for it? Great, let's start with the pay package and go from there.

Pay is typically comprised of four main components:
  1. Hourly taxable wages
  2. Per diems
  3. Housing
  4. Travel
The amounts we can pay per contract depend on the hospital's bill rate.
  1. We oftentimes think of traveler pay as a pie - hospitals pay us with a pie, and then we can cut it up in varying proportions for our travelers.
  2. An hourly taxable wage is always paid.
    1. Per diems (daily pay), travel, and housing are not taxed but can be broken up based on government guidelines by location.
      1. Veteran travelers may already understand taxable vs. non-taxable pay within their packages and ask for specifics so be prepared to explain in greater detail.



Deal Sheet information:
  1. Deal Sheets are a tool that allow us to determine what we can pay our travelers and still stay within company projected profit margins.
  2. Atlas's minimum taxable wage is currently (as of March 2023) $18.50/hour.
    1. We can exceed this amount, but never go below for any position.
  3. Depending on the contract type there are maximum rates of overtime that we can pay travelers.
    1. Standard assignments have a max OT of 69% of the bill rate.
      1. Assignments with a 48-hour guarantee may exceed 69%.
    2. Local contracts within 50 miles of the traveler's permanent address can pay OT at up to 75% of the bill rate.

Additional items to discuss about traveler pay when pitching jobs:
  1. Any on-call policies in place should be transparently highlighted.
  2. Explain what their assigned facility considers guaranteed hours.
  3. Give examples of how the facility's call-off policy will affect their pay.
  4. Double check that the traveler's gross pay meets their expectations.
