Do we need a candidate's permission to submit them to each job?
In short, YES! We always want to ensure a candidate is giving their explicit permission before we submit them for any given job opening.
Best practice is to have a quick phone conversation with the candidate for each potential job submittal to ensure that they have reviewed the pay package and other details of the job.
- If they are not able to get on the phone but will at least give a quick email or text reply confirming their acknowledgement of the pay package and job details, as well as giving their permission to be submitted to a job, that works as well.
Occasionally candidates may instruct us to submit them for any job within their preferred location/area, range of dates, and above a given pay rate, without bothering to get in touch with them to review each potential submittal.
- We should not do this, as there can easily be additional details about a job that will not work for the candidate, but they may not notice until after we've already spent time and resources submitting them for the job.
- This damages trust between our internal teams who have now wasted their time, as well as damages trust with the candidate even if we were simply doing what they asked in an effort to spare them a few minutes to review the pay package and job details.
