Choosing the right mode of communication

Choosing the right mode of communication

When choosing which mode of communication to contact travelers with, we should strive to find the balance of what works best for us with what each individual traveler expresses as their communication preferences so as to get the most out of each interaction.

Modes of communication:
  1. Email: Great for reconnecting with travelers who are averse to phone calls when an immediate response isn't expected.
  2. Text: Perfect for touching base with travelers who are both averse to phone calls and slow to reply to emails - typically receives a faster response time.
  3. Social Media (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.): Enables us to hone in on our most active prospective travelers, share content, or maintain relationships between assignments
When choosing a written mode of communication, we must be mindful that anything can be screenshot and made public for anyone to view. Always stay positive and professional - if you would not be ok with what you're about to send being publicly posted on social media, do not send it!
  1. Phone: Optimal for relationship building! The power of vocal expression is unparalleled when it comes to learning our traveler's "why."
When making phone calls always be mindful of the traveler's time zone - calling states like CA, AK, or HI at 9:00am Central Time is generally considered bad form - unless it is an extremely urgent matter we should avoid calling travelers during their overnight hours and instead first send a text or email to find out if/when they would like us to follow up on a call.
